I don't know about the US, but half the Trots over here are definitely serious, I've seen a few get arrested alongside the couple of M–Ls at a port blockades a few months back.
>furries trannies gays redditors and jews making the whole movement impotent.
How exactly do any of those make the movement impotent? Even autistic redditors are valuable if your organization knows how to allocate tasks. A vanguard isn't just a band of goons.
>the US would make a good candidate for a communist society
How so? It has some things going for it, especially its nature and relative isolation from other powers, but I'd like to hear your perspective.
>when you add in the decades worth of 'muh communist bogeyman' conditioning the social dogma is just too entrenched.
In my experience, the younger generations in the West are past that red scare era and couldn't recognize a communist unless they wore a goofy hammer and sickle flag or said the spooky spectre C word. I personally know former burger rightoids, both online and IRL, who are now M–L, it's not rare. I went out to a nightclub with strangers a while back and 4 out of 5 self-identified as socialists, and no matter what you think of "socialists", reformists, trots, demsocs, blah blah blah, the truth is that conditions are worsening, the internet has widened awareness of this, self-proclaimed communist countries are rising, and socialism is quickly becoming the flavor of the decade.
